Many lives every year are touched by adoption. Some by the opportunity to grow or start their families by adopting a child. Others by placing a child for adoption. Some by being adopted into a loving family. Even more simply by experiencing the gift of adoption as a bystander; Grandmother, Grandfather, Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Uncle, Aunt, Cousin or Friend. Adoption is a concept that, at it's core, shows the love humanity has for each other. It values life. It is Love.
Unfortunately, the costs of adoption are often exorbitant or even scandalous. While there are very real costs associated with the adoption process, it is a for profit business which sometimes brings with it opportunistic greed. A drive for profit that ultimately not only takes advantage of those wishing to adopt, but can even rob some of the opportunity at all due to the price tag. This is most unfortunate.
The Family Fund Foundation along with The Perpetual Adoption Fund was set up with the intent to aid and assist in a financial manner those who desperately want to adopt, but simply cannot reasonably find the means to do so. Another intent of The Foundation is to establish The Caitlin Scholarship Fund designed to be a scholarship offered to select Birthmothers. The Foundation will offer support groups while supporting existing support groups and lastly, The Foundation will assist in educating and enlightening the public regarding the benefits of adoption.
The Foundation is only in the initial stages of set up. A corporation has been established, but nothing more. In meetings with LDS Family Services, the concept of The Foundation were warmly received, nay, enthusiastically received. The next step is to receive tax exempt status and begin work! It is the intention of The Foundation to be ran as much as possible by volunteers. While we realize there will be expenses involved, we hope to reduce those expenses by using the skills and talents of volunteers where possible, thus leaving the bulk of donations to the purpose.
The Foundation is currently seeking help with regards to legal and accounting services. If you, or someone you know, would like to be part of something amazing, please let us know. If you feel you have any talents or skills that would be of benefit now, or in the future, to The Foundation, we would also love to hear from you at email address, adoptionfamilyfund@live.com. Many have inquired how donations may be made, and those gestures are greatly appreciated. A website with the ability to accept donations will be available in due time. Until then, our focus is to receive 501(c)3 status so that your donations will be tax exempt. Please keep us in mind as there will be a time, hopefully soon, when donations will be needed.
In the meantime, please check the blog from time to time to see what is new. We have exciting plans and grand schemes with hopes and prayers to make some good. After all, some families need a jump start!
